The U.S. Army operated a full-fledged library system in South Vietnam during the war. On large bases, air-conditioned libraries stayed open seven days a week and late into the night, staffed by male and female civilian librarians and soldier-assistants. Visitors checked their weapons at the front desk. Here, soldiers use the library at Long Binh.
